Two Weeks At Pine Cliffs Resort On The Algarve Coast In Portugal

We enjoyed a 2 week stay at Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast in Portugal.  On this luxury stay we had a great relaxing break on our long visit to Portugal.

When we wandered off the resort we found lots to see in the local area.  On day trips we marvelled at the great views of the cliffs and caves along the Algarve Coast.  And discovered some of the charming small towns in the Algarve.

Choosing Our Accommodations On The Algarve Coast

We decided early on that we wanted to stay at the Pine Cliff Resort for our visit to the Algarve Coast. When we booked we found that there were 3 separate resort areas to consider – the Hotel, Ocean Suites or the Residences.

Site Direction Signs

The Pine Cliff Resort Hotel had a large number of room types in the main building with some suites that were be available for booking or potentially assigned as upgrades. The Ocean Suites were all one or two-bedroom suites with fully-equipped kitchens and separate living and dining areas. The Residences offered two and three bedroom complete apartments.

The different types of accommodations were spread across the large Pine Cliff Resort site. Recreational and food facilities were located throughout the different areas on the resort. Yes – it was a very big resort property!

Since there were only two of us we really did not need more than one bedroom, although there was some lure to having kitchen facilities. We wanted a quiet, relaxing break so were a bit concerned about large groups and noisy families in the larger Ocean Suites and Residences area.

Ultimately we decided to be in the Hotel main building. We booked a King suite we would be happy with. And hoped our Ambassador Elite status with Marriott Bonvoy might get us a suite upgrade. We knew a stay for 2 weeks always made it hard for hotels to provide good upgrades. So we were even prepared to move mid-stay if an upgrade was available for part of our visit.

A Sweet Suite Upgrade

After an amazing luxury stay at the Ritz-Carlton Penha Longa Resort outside of Sintra in Portugal, we were a bit spoiled and were not sure what to expect when we reached the Pine Cliff Resort. Despite checking in online, we had no room confirmation before we arrived. But when we checked in at the front desk, the team was ready for our arrival and confirmed an amazing upgrade to a Duplex Suite.

We were escorted to our room and shown around the two storey suite. A large living room and balcony was on the main level. And the bedroom and bathroom were upstairs. On that upper level we also had a very large second balcony.

We were delighted with this upgrade for our entire 2 week stay. And while an ocean view would have been nice, we found our view out over the greenery was peaceful at all times of day.

A lovely amenity of local products and wine waited for us. And a personalized set of photos from our great experiences at the Penha Longa Resort let us know the hotel teams talked before we arrived.

We were so happy with our sweet suite upgrade at the Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast. It was the perfect spot to enjoy a 2 week break.

A Resort With A View

On our first stay on the Algarve Coast we had a great hotel with a view out to the sea. So on this return visit, we wanted to again enjoy those stunning cliff and cave views of the Algarve Coast.

The Pine Cliffs Resort sat high on the cliffs above the Falesia Beach. Signs were posted everywhere about the danger in getting too close to the edges.

Cliffs Warning

From the top we got a stunning view over the cliffs. When we went down to the beach, we got another fascinating perspective on the cliffs. And when we saw the erosion, we understood a bit better about the risk of being too close to the edge. It reminded us of our visit to the Scarborough Bluffs close to home where more and more of the cliff edge was now fenced.

While the cliffs we amazing in the daylight, when the sun set they glowed with an stunning red colour. And when it was dark, the cliffs were lit and provided an amazing sight.

Relax Around The Pine Cliffs Resort On The Algarve Coast

On our two week visit to the Pine Cliffs Resort we wanted some down time and planned to enjoy the resort. We were delighted with the amount of green space we found. Loungers let us relax in the sun or shade. And one day we even got a jazz concert as a local radio station broadcast from the resort.

Gardens

We were excited when we found the Secret Garden. If we wanted a quiet spot, this was perfect. Around the resort we found such a great variety of fountains if we wanted soothing trickling sounds.

There were pools in all areas around the Pine Cliffs Resort. There was even one inside pool. The pools were large with lots of chairs and umbrellas around the outside. But we were disappointed there was no designated Adults Only pool. This was not an issue when we visited in quiet season but when the resort was filled with families the pools might be less attractive to us.

To get to the vast sand beach, we took an elevator on the property. It took us down to a long wooden path with more stairs out to the beach. We found the beach quiet with lots of lounge chairs available. The resort was on Falasia Beach and at one end of the beach we found a public access point. So we imagined it got quite busy in the middle of the summer.

We found so many places to relax on our stay at the Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast.

Eat Your Way Around The Resort

We started every day well with the huge breakfast included with our room at the Pine Cliffs Resort. At the Hotel site, there was a large buffet breakfast served. When we ate there we chose a patio table outside.

But our favourite breakfast spot was O Grill. It was a long walk to the other end of the resort by the Residences or we could hop in the resort shuttle. But it was worth the trip over. This was a much quieter spot and the customer service was top notch every time we ate there by the pool.

Many of the restaurants were open for lunch. But we loved when we strolled down to the beach for lunch at La Mare. We found fresh seafood. And an amazing beach view from the top patio area.

For an afternoon snack we ordered lunch from roving waiters on the lawn. Or waited until the ice cream cart showed up.

There were several spots for dinner on the resort but our favourite was the fresh seafood at O Pescador. We always made sure to check out the daily drink special Paulo had on.

As the sun went down, there was really only one place to be. The Mirador Champagne Bar sat at the edge of the cliffs. We could not pass on a sunset drink with a view!

We ate and drank well every day at the Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast.

Tasty Food Close By The Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast

When we wanted more variety in food offerings we did not have far to go. Just across the road from the front gate of the resort we found a number of different restaurants. They were always a tasty source of fresh seafood.

When we drove to the small community at Falasia Beach, we found a large plaza with multiple food places that we tried. And one day we even found a great pizza for a lighter meal.

We had a rental car so we were not limited to places close by for eating out. When we drove towards Albufeira we found Aroma Di Mare. The sign advertising “all you can eat seafood” drew us in more than once.

When we travelled in the Algarve, we never struggled to find great food. This was certainly true on our stay at the Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast.

Fun For The Whole Family

The Pine Cliffs Resort had something to do for everyone. When the kids got tired of the pools, there were several kid play areas around the resorts.

For all ages there were a number of tennis courts available. And the 9-hole golf course ran through and around the resort property. The resort was known for the Par 3 sixth hole. This championship tee was known as the Devil’s Parlour. The tee and hole were at the top of the cliffs – separated by a deep ravine. The shot was 197 metres over this ravine to a narrow green.

When we toured the resort, we visited the MIMO area. During the day we picked up espresso and a snack. But MIMO also provided cooking classes and at night a Chef’s Table was offered with a local menu and wine pairing. Sadly only the daytime coffee shop was open when we visited. But we know we will book at MIMO on a return visit.

We found fun for the whole family on our visit to the Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast.

Amazing Tile Art Around The Resort

As we wandered around the Pine Cliffs Resort, it was hard not to notice the beautiful Portuguese tile art we found everywhere. We were first entranced with the tile decoration we found when we explored Porto in Portugal. And in every place we stopped we always looked for tile art.

We found the traditional blue and white “Azulejo” tiles. Neptune stood on the outside wall looking down on the courtyard. And in many places we saw tiles with iconic sights from around Portugal. Sometimes the tile art looked like paintings.

Around the resort we found a massive collection of tiles that depicted different regions in Portugal. The tiles showed local dress and local trades. Every stop in front of a tile was an education.

We were intrigued with the tile art gallery we found when we wandered around the Pine Cliffs Resort on the Algarve Coast.

Head Out For Day Trips

We spent a lot of time relaxing on our 2 week stay in the Algarve but we also headed out for day trips along the Algarve Coast. Several time we headed off in search of the amazing cliffs and caves on the Algarve Coast.

On other days we explored the small towns in the Algarve area. And even visited the Parque Natural Da Ria Formosa by Olhao.

  1. Wow can I come and live here please?! I don’t think I would ever want to leave. The food looks incredible, but it would be because of its location. I love that they have the tiles incorporated into the design, it makes the resort more authentic. The number of pools are just incredible, I’d love to stay here.
